Pest Control Research sells a range of excelent kill traps as listed below. Kill traps have an advantage over leg-hold traps because they are not required by New Zealand law to be checked on a daily basis. This means the traps can be left set for several days or weeks which increases the time available for an animal to be caught and drastically reduces the time required to check traps. Portable kill traps are a popular option with the Department of Conservation and possum control contractors because of this time-saving advantage.
The Sentinel Kill Trap. This possum trap is a lightweight kill trap suitable for use in remote areas of native forest where a portable design allows more traps to be carried in your pack. The Sentinel is a popular trap with the Department of Conservation who have used the trap to reduce possum numbers over large areas in places such as the Urewera Nationsl Park (see the following link) http://www.doc.govt.nz/Documents/conservation/land-and-freshwater/land/ntuerp/te-urewera-mainland-island-annual-report-08-09.pdf). The Sentinel is also a popular trap used by possum control contractors because it can be set and left for several days before being checked unlike leg-hold traps that are required by law to be checked daily.
The PCR 200 trap. This trap is a good quality copy of the DOC 200 trap developed by the Department of Conservation to humanely kill stoats rats and hedgehogs. The trap needs to be used in a wooden or plastic box to minimise birds or pets being killed.
The Timms trap. This trap is an easy to set trap contained within its own yellow plastic box. The trap is very popular with homeowners and life style block owners who need to control possums on their properties.
The Holden Multi-kill trap. This trap was develop by the well known inventor Mike Holden. It is suitable for killing possums, stoats and feral cats. It has its own plastic cover to guide the pest into the trap.
The Victor Professional Rat Trap. This rat trap is recognised as one of the best traps available for capturing rats.
The modified Victor Stoat Trap. Pest Control Research undertook a joint project with Landcare Research NZ Ltd to market a lightweight and cost-effective stoat kill-trap that can be use as an alternative to the more expensive and heavier DOC 150 and DOC 200 kill traps.
