Modified Victor Stoat and Rat Trap complete with trap and tunnel

A light-weight kill trap for stoat and rat control
$24.95 NZD excl GST

The Modified Victor was developed by Grant Morriss and Bruce Warburton of Landcare Research NZ Ltd. They developed it to provide the pest control industry with a more cost-effective and lightweight alternative to the DOC 150 and 200 traps that are set in a wooden box. These cost approximately $65 and weight around 4.5kg whereas the modified Victor with the tunnel only weighs 0.35kg, which is less than 1 tenth the weight. Also the Modified Victor costs less than one third the price.

Grant and Bruce undertook extensive tests on the trap to determine whether it passed international standards for humaness of kill traps for killing stoats and rats. They found that the modified Victor trap passed these standards when the trap was set both horizontally and vertically. Click on the following links to see the results and the scientific report.

After these trials Grant and Bruce sought a commercial partner to take the trap to a commercial stage where it could be manufactured and sold on a commercial scale. Pest Control Research LP undertook this task and designed plastic injection moulded parts that fit onto the Victor to achieve the same results that the prototype trap achieved in the Landcare Research trials. We designed a trigger that holds a slice of the Muselid and Cat bait (also available on this site) that is very attractive to stoats and rats.

Grant has made a video on how to use the Modified Victor and tunnel. This can be viewed in the following link.
